Saldo
2020-2021 | Dimensions variable | Corrugated plastic boxes inside fabric covers, phone cases, haberdashery
Intro
Saldo's point of departure are Amsterdam’s phone shops: the successors of the now-obsolete internet cafés. The congestion of made-in-China smartphone accessories displayed, together with their eye-catching decorations, render these shops into representative specimens of hybridisation in our globalised world. Borrowing elements from the shapes and materials of food delivery bags, these prototypes for wearable sculptures want to celebrate the resourceful ways in which these merchants exploit their mostly narrow commercial spaces.
